Richard was admitted as a Solicitor in 2001 after obtaining an Honours Degree in Law from Bond University.
Richard joined OMB Solicitors in 2001 after serving 14 years with the Queensland Police Service, 9 years as a Detective.
Richard was made a Partner of the firm in 2006 and specialises in Estate Planning, Estate Administration including Contested Estate Litigation. His practice also incorporates Commercial and domestic Property Law.
Richard regularly advises accountants and financial planners in complex Estate Planning and Estate Administration cases. He provides estate planning advice for a wide range of clients including mums and dads as well as high wealth individuals with complex company, trust and superannuation structures.
As an Estate Specialist, Richard’s understanding, attention to detail and utmost discretion means he is often sought out to provide advice to high profile and high net wealth individuals and companies. The Queensland Law Society refers clients to Richard to provide independent legal advice.
Richard works almost exclusively in the complex world of Estates. Whilst Estate Law is well established, it is ever evolving due to modern day complexities of life, blended families, Trust & Superannuation laws and increasing asset value of estates, which are sadly becoming more attractive to fight over.
Richard can help protect clients with their estate planning to avoid nasty and expensive estate litigation. He specialises in complex Will structures incorporating Testamentary Discretionary Trusts. These complex structures are becoming more and more popular for clients who wish to minimise tax for their loved ones after their death and to ensure their hard earned assets are protected from a beneficiary’s creditors and predators, such as the ATO or in-laws.
Richard regularly works in conjunction with professional advisors, be it accountants, financial advisors and even other lawyers, and their clients, developing ways to provide value for money services for both the clients and the advisors.
Richard practices in all areas of Estate Planning and Estate Administration. He has an enviable success record in Contested Estate Litigation. Richard has experience in advising executors of their roles and responsibilities, the duties of personal representatives and trustees, advising principals and attorneys about Enduring Powers of Attorney, the payment of Superannuation Death Benefits and prosecuting and defending Family Provision Applications (“Contested Estates”) for beneficiaries and executors alike.
Richard has acted for high wealth individuals and companies, some of whom appear on the BRW Rich List. That said, he predominantly acts for mums and dads getting their estate planning affairs in order. He is also a valuable source of advice for executors during the difficult and emotional time when they are called upon to administer the estate of a loved one.
